About
Welcome to Our Notary
I have been a notary since 1994 and hold law degrees from the Universities of Durham and London. I have helped thousands of individuals, couples and business clients with their legal documents for abroad. If you need a notary, I’ve almost certainly dealt with similar documents for someone else.
I am based at Stalybridge on the east side of Manchester.
I normally work 10am-4pm Monday to Wednesday, but I can be available outside these hours. A face-to-face meeting is almost always necessary. I usually see clients in Stalybridge, but I can come to see you by prior arrangement.
I am a member of the Notaries Society and am regulated by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Both their websites contain more information about the notarial profession.

Frequently Asked Questions
A notary is a specialised lawyer qualified to deal with documents to be used outside the United Kingdom. The Notary supervises the signing of the documents or certifies facts or copy documents so that they will be accepted abroad.
My responsibility is to the document or the transaction. I am not qualified to advise you on the law or procedure of the country where your document is going to be used- you must rely on your foreign lawyer for this.
I will always need to see your passport and proof of address and I may need to see other evidence. I always prefer to see your document before we meet (preferably forwarded by email). I will confirm exactly what I need to see before we meet.
As a Notary I put my signature and seal on your document. Sometimes proof that I am a qualified notary is also needed by obtaining either an Apostille from the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office or by legalisation at an Embassy. I can tell you when this is needed and obtain this or help you obtain it.
If you let me see your document beforehand, I can normally complete the work in one meeting. If your document needs an Apostille or legalisation at an embassy, then turnround will depend on their current processing times. If I am certifying degree or similar certificates, I will need to obtain verification from your university or the Higher Education Degree Datacheck.
I can give you up-to-date information when we discuss your requirements.
I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. I will keep your data and business confidential. Because a notary provides evidence on which others rely, my professional obligations may require me to confirm information or copy documents to third parties who make a legitimate request to me.
I maintain professional indemnity insurance cover of £1,000,000.00.
Any complaint should be made to me first. If I cannot resolve it then I will refer the complaint to The Notaries Society who will deal with the complaint under their Approved Complaints Procedure.
Complaints may also be made to the Legal Ombudsman eight weeks from the date the complaint was first made to me.
